TEN plants were stolen from a popular Dunbar beauty spot – just days after horticultural experts were judging volunteers’ green-fingered efforts.

Judges from Keep Scotland Beautiful arrived in Dunbar on Tuesday, August 9, and were shown around by Dunbar in Bloom volunteers.

However, Mary Young, from Dunbar in Bloom, told the Courier that 10 grasses had been stolen from Winterfield Park just days later.

She described it as “a bit of a downer” and said it was not the first time that plants had been stolen in the town.

The Beautiful Scotland Awards are handed out in Aberdeen next month.

The judges’ day started with a short presentation at Belhaven Hospital Haven Cafe, before meeting volunteers from Belhaven Community Garden and Flourish Garden Therapy.

Torrance Taxis supplied a minibus to take the judges to Wingate Crescent, before heading on to Winterfield Park, Lauderdale Park, High Street and the Ridge Backlands project, before ending at the town’s Abbey Church.

Mrs Young added: “The weather was kind and the town looked great.

“Results will be known in September and Dunbar in Bloom would like to thank all volunteers who helped make the tour a success.”
