MUSSELBURGH residents will have the chance to relive their favourite moments of the Riding of the Marches 2016 with screenings of the official video.

TheRoM2016 DVD will receive its official premiere at Venue 1 at The Brunton, Musselburgh, on Monday, November 7, and Tuesday, November 8, both at 7.30pm.

The 90-minute video will highlight the best of Musselburgh’s once-in-a-generation celebration and include footage from almost all the events during the week-long festival which marks the town’s ancient boundaries.

Local video production company Raw Film took more than 900 hours of footage of the week-long celebration and attended almost every event.

Chairman Alastair Knowles said: “We have already seen clips from the film and are delighted with the way it is coming together. The film company worked non-stop throughout the week, as well as in the run up to it. We wanted a film to capture the spirit of the week and this is what Raw Film has done.”

Agata Jagodzinska and Michael Grant, who make up Raw Film, based at Queen Margaret University, issued a joint statement, commenting: “We are delighted to be involved in such a fantastic community project and have enjoyed every minute of our involvement of the Riding of the Marches. We got a real feel for the entire week and loved filming the very diverse and amazing range of events.

“It was a pleasure to work with everyone involved with bringing the week together and with the principals who all worked so hard to deliver so much for the people. It was great to be able to play a part in this.”

The highlights include the Riding of the Marches parade, which was one of the longest in Scotland as it wove for a mile around the streets of Musselburgh, and the turf cutting ceremony. They will feature along with the civic ball, junior rideout, the Gig at the Grandstand, treasure hunt, senior citizens’ tea dance and most other events.

A special screening will take place for all volunteers and supporters of the event on Monday and a second show will be held on Tuesday, November 8. Tickets for the Tuesday show will cost £5 and are available now from The Brunton box office.

A DVD and download will be available and official merchandise, including Riding of the Marches calendars, will be on sale at the screenings.

Both nights will be opened by Mr Knowles, the 1995 Town Champion, and closed by 2016 Town Champion Neil Wilson. They will speak about the Musselburgh Riding of the Marches past, present and future.
