TENS of thousands of pounds of damage has been caused following a fire at business units near Fenton Barns which left them "burnt to a crisp".

Several cars stored at a garage and also a fully kitted out weight training gym were destroyed at the blaze, early yesterday (Monday) morning, between Drem and Fenton Barns.

Ryan Bathgate, who used one of the units for storing cars (pictured below), told the Courier "there is nothing salvageable at all" after the blaze.

Firefighters from East Lothian and the Capital worked for more than 12 hours at the scene, north of Drem, but Mr Bathgate confirmed that all the units had been destroyed.

He said: "I'm not sure what has happened yet - the investigation is still ongoing but all eight units are burnt to a crisp."

East Lothian Courier:

Haddington powerlifter, Kenny Simm, who used No Limits Gym, which was also destroyed, said on social media: "We are all absolutely gutted... a very sad day indeed!"

Fire crews from North Berwick, East Linton and Haddington were initally called to the fire shortly after 4am yesterday, and were relieved by colleagues from Newcraighall, Sighthill and Tollcross.

They worked throughout the day to control the blaze, while the B1345 was shut between the B1377 and the A198.

The road re-opened at about 3.30pm, police confirmed.
