CARDBOARD cut-out versions of police officers are being used to tackle speeding in Garvald.

Community police officers used the lifesize cut-outs in the village last Monday morning for a few hours.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland explained the reason for the tactic, which has been employed elsewhere in the county.

They said: “Speeding is still being highlighted as an issue in the small village, resulting in the ‘pop-up police’ visiting the village.

“Deploying these for short periods of time in different rural villages and towns is commented on favourably by community councils.

“This, along with real-time speed checks, has proved to be effective in altering driver behaviour.

“Keep an eye out, they may be in your town or village soon.”
