ROAD closures starting today (Monday) at the heart of North Berwick are expected to cause “some disruption to residents and businesses”.

Three phases of works are planned for throughout March as “a carriageway raised table” at the east end of the town’s High Street is put in place.

The works also involve Quality Street and Melbourne Place.

A spokesperson for East Lothian Council said: “It is appreciated that this type of work may cause some disruption to residents and businesses, and the council will always work constructively and where possible seek to minimise any disruption or impact on those that live, work, or visit the location.

“To undertake the work safely, selective road closures are to be implemented, and to minimise the impact on all road users, the work is programmed in three phases.

“The road closures will be in place between 9am and 4pm on weekdays only, except for Melbourne Place (car park exit).”

The first phase of works, which runs on weekdays until March 15, involves footway and drainage works at the High Street and Quality Street junction.

The High Street will be closed from Quality Street to Market Place from 9am to 4pm.

The second phase, which runs from March 18-22, involves footway and drainage work at the Quality Street and Melbourne Place junction.

Melbourne Place (car park exit) will be closed for the duration of the works.

Finally, from March 25-28, raised table surfacing on Quality Street and High Street, will take place from 9am to 4pm.

Melbourne Place (car park exit) will again be closed.

The council spokesperson added: “All diversion routes will be signed and advance notification signage in place before commencement.

“Pedestrian access and emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.

“The above dates are subject to change given the weather susceptible nature of the construction process.

“Further correspondence providing more specific details including contact details for any queries and access arrangements will be issued to all properties directly impacted by the work.
