The premises of the recently closed Scotbet store in North Berwick have been listed for sale.

North Berwick’s last betting shop, at 118-120 High Street, closed its doors on January 21 after trading for more than 30 years in the town.

There was speculation at the time that an interest had been shown in the property from betting chain Ladbrokes, though Ladbrokes never confirmed or denied this.

Now, the building has been listed for sale for offers at over £350,000 by Shepherd Chartered Surveyors.

The agents describe the property as "prominently located on the north side of High Street which benefits from extremely high levels of footfall, vehicular traffic and is home to national and local commercial occupiers including the Co-op, the Post Office and North Berwick Opticians.”

The agents also state that the open plan interior would be perfect for a variety of retail options including a café or leisure service.

They said: “Internally, the accommodation comprises an open plan configuration with a tea preparation area and WC facilities to the rear. The property benefits from an attractive frontage onto the High Street and the open plan configuration offers flexibility for a variety of retail, cafe, professional services or leisure uses subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents.

“The subjects offer a rarely available freehold opportunity within the desirable town of North Berwick.”

Kenny Miller, chair of North Berwick Community Council, previously told the Courier that he hoped the building would be filled soon.

He said: “Hopefully something is put in place soon. Nobody likes to see a building laying empty so if it is something like a Ladbrokes or something else, then that is fair enough.”

Anyone interested in the property should contact agent Emily Anderson at emily.anderson@shepherd.co.uk
