A COUNTY man behaved in a threatening manner while on board a bus by telling passengers he had killed his own mother with an axe.

Peter Renton was travelling on a bus between West Barns and Dunbar when he claimed to have committed the murder of his relative.

Renton, of Forth Street, North Berwick, also shouted and swore during the incident in June 2022.

The 51-year-old appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday, where the details of the offence were heard.

Renton admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and stating he had committed a murder during a journey between West Barns and Queen’s Road, Dunbar, on June 30, 2022.

He had also previously pleaded guilty to a charge of breaching bail conditions on September 29 last year by being on High Street, North Berwick between 8pm and 7am instead of at home.

Sheriff John Cook deferred sentence on Renton till May 21 for him to be of good behaviour..
