A HOUSEBUILDER in the Wallyford area is donating funds to a Musselburgh-based initiative for families.

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland teamed up with First Step Community Project to contribute £25 for each new home sold and legally completed in the launch of phase two of its Ravensheugh development.

The first tranche of £1,275 was donated by the developer this month, and a total sum of £3,725 will be paid to First Step as work on phase two of the development progresses.

The money will go directly to supporting the work First Step provides in Musselburgh.

Based at Galt Avenue, First Step aims to provide opportunities for local families with young children to make positive choices in their lives, by providing supportive centre-based and outreach activities which encourage parents and children to develop their self-esteem, confidence and skills. There are a wide range of services and activities provided, including parenting support, nursery provision, groups and courses for parents, counselling, dedicated support for young parents and a grandparents’ group.

Tina Pollock, project manager for First Step, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, and we can’t thank them enough for their generous donation.

“This money will be used to refurbish some of our indoor spaces for families to meet, gain peer support and knowledge to support their child’s learning and development.

“On behalf of everyone who uses the services that our project provides locally, I would like to say a huge thank you.”

Kirsty McGill, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “Being able to support and work with local charities and organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us, and it’s always lovely to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in our local communities.”
