A CHARITY shop which has been on Dunbar High Street for nearly 30 years has reopened after a refit.

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland declared the reopening of its Dunbar store last month a “huge success”.

Diane Mckervail, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s regional retail manager, was delighted to welcome customers back through the doors.

She said: “The store has done so well over the years and it’s never had any work done.

“We wanted to give back to the community and the volunteers by making the store new and fresh so it’s a nicer place to shop.

“Dunbar opened with huge success and the customer feedback was fantastic.

“Joan, one of our lovely volunteers who has volunteered in Dunbar for 25 years, cut the ribbon ready for our fantastic customers to come in. Well done to all the team for an amazing refit – go sunny Dunny!”

The store, which first opened in the town centre in 1996, accepts and sells clothes, books, accessories, bric-à-brac and homeware.

Margaret Black, manager of the Dunbar store, thanked everyone for their help in ensuring that the shop was ready for the grand reopening.

She said: “We’re more excited for the volunteers who will have a new environment which is nice and fresh.

“Most of our volunteers are long-standing.

“Two volunteers celebrated 25 years of service last year, which is just incredible.

“The rest of the volunteers have been here for coming up 10 years.

“The newer ones have been here three or four years so we have a great team of volunteers here. We’re very lucky.

“It’s been a massive team effort to get ready to reopen.”
