“A COMPLETELY unprovoked attack” in a park by a man wearing a balaclava left a man with a hand injury.

Police have launched an investigation after a man was assaulted in Lewisvale Park in Musselburgh.

The incident, which took place at about 7.05pm on Sunday, saw the 31-year-old victim approached by a man who “presented a weapon and assaulted him”.

The victim suffered a hand injury but did not require hospital treatment.

The suspect is described as between six-foot and six-foot-three-inches tall and was wearing a black zip up hooded top, black trousers and white Nike Air Max trainers.

He was wearing a black balaclava with a red emblem on the forehead area.

Constable Gareth McDermott, from Musselburgh Police Station, said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack on the victim.

“The area was busy with pedestrians and dog walkers, and we would appeal to anyone who was in Lewisvale Park around 7pm on Sunday evening to come forward.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2930 of 17 March, 2024."
