AN AMATEUR dramatics group has boosted the coffers of a community group thanks to its performances.

Dunbar And District Amateur Drama Association (DADADA) performed Bothered And Bewildered last month, where a collection was taken; £250 has now being handed over to the Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group.

Louise Glen, secretary and treasurer of DADADA, told the Courier: “Bothered And Bewildered covered the story of a lady who was declining from health to quite a serious state of dementia and eventually being put in a home by her daughters.

“It just showed the decline and the emotion that each family member went through and also the person’s experience.”

The play, written by Gail Young, was performed at the Dunbar Harbour Chapel.

Members of the group stopped off to present a cheque for £250 to the Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group, which meets in the town’s Bleachingfield Centre.

Louise described the subject as “quite a good, current topic to perform”.

She said: “I think a lot of people in this day and age do have a story in one way or another about dementia. Because of the subject matter, one of our members is vaguely connected with the Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group and it was suggested we do a collection at the door.

“We just put a box at the door and managed to raise £250, which is great.”

DADADA is the long-established Dunbar Lyric Group, which previously performed some “really big musicals”.

Now it has more than a dozen members who take on a variety of roles, ranging from appearing on stage to helping with lighting and props.

Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group has been supporting families in the area for nearly a decade.

Since the formation of it parent charity (Dunbar Dementia Network SCIO) in 2018, the group has gone from strength to strength, and a second group has recently been formed to support bereaved carers, and those adjusting to life on their own if a loved one moves on to care outwith the home.
