Work to repair potholes on North Berwick High Street is being carried out today and tomorrow.

East Lothian Council confirmed that work is taking place between being carried out today and tomorrow to repair potholes between the High Street's junction with Market Place and Westgate's junction with Westend Place.

Finding a suitable time, to minimise disruption, had been difficult, a council spokesperson said. But after talks with North Berwick Community Council, it was agreed that work would be carried out this week.

It comes after members of the community council raised concerns about potholes across town roads at their meeting this month.

Kathryn Smith, group secretary, said at the meeting: "This is something I am very passionate about. Potholes are a big issue across the town and more needs to be done.

"It is not safe for drivers."

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The council had planned to undertake remedial works to the potholes between Market Place and Westend Place, North Berwick but programming a suitable period when we could carry out this activity has been challenging as we are mindful of minimising disruption to residents and businesses at a time when other works are already taking place at the east end of the High Street.

“However, following communication from North Berwick Community Council indicating it was supportive of the works being undertaken at the earliest possibility, we have been able to identify two days on March 21 and 22 when there are no other restrictions on the street to progress interim repairs.

"A suspension of parking will be required in localised areas to allow works to progress, and signs and cones will be sited at the location.”
