A soup and pudding lunch in Musselburgh raised £850 for Sepsis Research.

The recent event, in St Michael’s Church Hall on Dalrymple Loan, was organised by Musselburgh Inner Wheel Club.

Members were joined by supporters from Musselburgh and surrounding areas, and there was a “great turnout” of visitors from other Inner Wheel clubs in the district.

District chairman Marjorie McGeary and district editor Nancy Ralston were also welcomed to the lunch.

As well as three choices of soup and “delicious” puddings, those present enjoyed ice cream donated by Kevin Di Rollo.

Guests heard about sepsis – a life-threatening reaction to an infection – from Gill Thomson, fundraising, finance and administration co-ordinator with Sepsis Research.

Sepsis survivor Jane Anderson highlighted how sepsis affected people: the immune system overreacts to an infection and starts to damage the body’s own tissues and organs.

Sheila Bowler, spokesperson for Musselburgh Inner Wheel, said: “We raised £850 thanks to everyone’s hard work.

“This could not be achieved without the generosity of the ladies in the club, who sold tickets, made soups and puddings, and who worked hard to make the day so successful. Thank you to everyone for their support.”
