A HADDINGTON man has been banned from the road and ordered to pay compensation to a motorcyclist he left with a serious injury after driving carelessly.
John Smillie, of Hardgate Court, struck Samuel Ramsay with his vehicle after he failed to keep a proper lookout while driving near the Fordell junction of the A68 and A6106 near Cousland.
Smillie drove his vehicle without due care and attention, and caused Mr Ramsay to suffer a serious injury on September 30 last year.
The 64-year-old admitted the offence by letter last month and appeared in the dock for sentencing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.
Sheriff Kenneth Campbell KC fined Smillie £520 and banned him from driving for 16 months.
He also told him he must pay Mr Ramsay £500 in compensation.
