Audiences can experience the "magic" of live performances and "thrill" of storytelling with The Brunton’s line-up of shows in May.

While unable to present events at The Brunton in Musselburgh, parts of which are closed following a roof survey, the Brunton Theatre Trust is taking its arts and entertainment to other venues in Musselburgh and also at Haddington.

The Brunton have spent the last year establishing a successful programme at the Corn Exchange in Haddington and, following rave reviews and a sell-out run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Jack Docherty, the BAFTA award-winning star of Scot Squad and Absolutely, is taking his critically acclaimed show on tour. His show David Bowie and Me - Parallel Lives is at the Corn Exchange this Saturday, May 4, at 7.30pm.

Les Misérables (12A) will be screened at Loretto School Theatre in Musselburgh on Wednesday, May 8, at 7.30pm. Set in 19th-century France, it tells the story of Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker’s daughter. The decision changes their lives forever.

Back to Black tells the tragic story of Amy Winehouse, Capturing the struggles of global fame, honouring the singer's "artistry, wit and honesty, as well as trying to understand her demons." Described as "an unflinching look at the modern celebrity machine and a powerful tribute to a once-in-a-lifetime talent," the film is coming to Loretto School Theatre on Wednesday, May 15, and Haddington Corn Exchange on May 29, both at 7.30pm.

The Brunton Theatre Trust’s classical programme continues at Northesk Parish Church in Musselburgh with its Bite-Sized Concerts at Lunchtime series. Concert goers are invited to treat themselves to a relaxing light lunch in the adjacent church hall at noon before unwinding with an hour of live music. Chopin’s Wonderful Piano Music, featuring pianist Marina Staneva, can be enjoyed on Tuesday, May 14, at 1pm.
