MUSSELBURGH is preparing to ring in 2017 with its family Hogmanay celebration, which features a second ceilidh this year due to popular demand.

A packed day of activities will be hosted by The Brunton on Saturday, including lantern making and Edinburgh Samba drumming workshops.

There will be storytelling and puppets for younger children, with two shows from It’s in The Bag, voted Scottish Entertainers of the Year 2013 by Netmums. Clydebuilt Puppets will tell the story of The Three Giants with life-sized body puppets.

There are two family ceilidhs going on in the afternoon due to demand, 1-2.30pm and 3.30-5pm.

Families can also see in the bells with Hogmania, a family friendly party with a live band, pipers and traditional food from 7.45pm until about 1am on New Year’s Day.

A free lantern parade will leave The Brunton at 7pm led by the Edinburgh Samba Band, Jacks of Frost and illuminated walkabout characters. The procession will make its way to Fisherrow Links for a free fireworks display at 7.30pm.

Aladdin, The Brunton’s panto for 2016, runs until Hogmanay, with showings at 1pm and 5pm on Saturday.

Young people from across East Lothian join a professional cast which sees the return of a few familiar faces including Richard Conlon, Sean Hay, Shonagh Price and Keith McLeish.

Martin Murphy, Eilidh Weir and Julie Coombe also join the cast for their first time in a Brunton panto.
