COCKENZIE and Port Seton Community Council said goodbye to its chairwoman Sheila Chambers last week after she stepped down from the organisation.

Mrs Chambers, who took over leadership of the community council in 2014, was one of three serving community councillors who did not seek renomination to the group during the recent elections.

She was presented with flowers, a card and a gift, as she brought her final meeting to a close at Port Seton Centre last Tuesday.

Mrs Chambers, who is a prominent member of the community, serving on the community council in various roles over the years as well as helping run Cockenzie In Bloom, thanked everyone for their support during her time in charge. She said: “We had a good team and a good time.”

The new office bearers for the community council will be appointed at a special meeting of the new community council on October 18.

At that time the meeting is also expected to discuss East Lothian Council’s draft Local Development Plan and how the community council should respond to decisions affecting the area.

Members of the public will be welcome at the meeting.

For details of time and place, contact the community council via Port Seton Centre or follow them on Facebook.
