THREE county clay pigeon shooters have qualified for the Scottish Skeet team for the Home International.

Walter Elliot, Ian Hume and Stewart Wilson have all made the national team after the Scottish championships at Auchterhouse Country Sports, near Dundee.

They will return to the venue for the Home International, contested between Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Jersey, on the last weekend of this month.

For Elliot, it is a 16th consecutive appearance in the competition, and the trio will hope to be part of the first winning Scotland team for almost two decades.

He was, though, confident of ending an 18-year winless run, and was delighted to be selected once again this year

Walter told Courier Sport: "I am proud to be representing Scotland again.

"It's getting harder each year, though, as younger shooters are coming through and competing for places.

"I'm delighted, though, to be maintaining the run of appearances, which goes back to 2001.

"Our captain this year is Drew Christie, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, and was in the winning team in 1998.

"We're hoping this is a good omen."

Hume, who will win his 10th international cap, siad: "I am really pleased to have qualified for the team this year, as I've had a few problems with injuries."

Wilson, who doubles up as the event's co-ordinator, will make his second appearance in the event.

He added: "I'm over the moon to make it onto the squad again.

"The level of competition for places has never been higher with the Home International on home soil, so it's great to be involved."
