NORTH Berwick rugby star Tom Brown is only a few matches away from a personal milestone with Edinburgh Rugby.

Brown, the once-capped Scotland internationalist, is just a handful of games away from joining an elite group who have played 100 games in the black and red.

The former Law Primary School pupil admits is would be an honour to reach the milestone.

The 26-year-old told Courier Sport: "I'm a local boy, and to play for the team I watched growing up 100 times would be a massive achievement.

"It's been in the back of my mind for a while, but I've got to concentrate on doing my job and making sure I'm in the team.

"We've got a lot of good players here, but if I did manage 100 games, it would be a massive achievement."

Despite defeat in their opening league game, the Capital outfit bounced back well to beat Scarlets 20-9 at BT Murrayfield in round two.

Renowned for a more structured approach under Alan Solomons, Edinburgh only scored 41 tries in the league last season – the fourth-lowest in the Pro12.

Brown, is one of only a few members of the squad that reached the 2012 Heineken Cup semi-finals left at BT Murrayfield, and admits he is enjoying being one of the more experienced players in the side.

"I've had to take on a bit more of a leadership role," said Tom, whose one Test cap came against Australia in the summer of 2012.

He added: "We've got a lot of really promising youngsters, and although I'm only 26, I've been here a while."

The back-three star praised the work of new attack coach Duncan Hodge, and the influence of the summer signings in changing the club's approach.

He said: "Hodgey has made a big difference – it's something we've been working on a lot.

"We've got Sas [Tofilau] and Junior [Rasolea] who have come in this summer, plus we've got Phil [Burleigh] as well, and they're big ball players, so that will make a difference to the way we play."

The county ace started on the left win as Edinburgh were beaten 33-20 by Leinster at BT Murrayfield on Friday – his 94th appearance, and 70th start for the club.

He is expected to retain his place for the trip to Munster on Saturday.
