A TRIO of county brothers celebrated more jiu jitsu success at the Junior European Championships at the weekend.#

Rory, Oliver and Duncan Anderson each won the gold medal in their category at Alderley Stadium in Wolverhampton to add to their British junior and juvenile open competition medals of last month.

At that competition, 11-year-old Rory and Duncan, 7, won gold medals, while nine-year-old Oliver took bronze after deferring to his older brother in the semi-final.

This time round, Duncan was in action first, and he set the tone with a host of superb performances, as he won each fight by submission.

Oliver followed suit, sealing his gold medal success with a new submission technique, much to the delight of coach Thiago Ferreria.

The hat-trick of family successes was completed by Rory, who won each of his pool bouts in convincing fashion, before storming the final – the shortest fight of the day – with an arm bar submission move.

Their victories capped what mum Moya described as "an amazing year" for the three Innerwick Primary School pupils.

She told Courier Sport: "It was a real treat to watch the boys and their team mates perform so well. Ryan [their dad] was especially proud as due to work commitments he doesn't often get to travel to competitions and see them in action and soak up the atmosphere of these big venues with more than 500 children from 17 countries giving their all on the mats.#

"Since coming home the boys have been demonstrating their submissions on their dad and he can confirm that you would definitely want to tap out if caught!"

She also praised the efforts of Ferreria, who runs TF Fitness Club in Berwick.

Moya added: "None of this would have been possible without the hard work and commitment to train, the supportive team around them and the innovative coaching of Thiago Ferreria and the Checkmat team."

The talented trio, who took up the sport less than two years ago, are back in action at the Pan-American Championships in Long Beach, California, in February.

The family are looking for sponsors to help with the costs involved in travelling to the USA, and anyone interested is asked to contact Moya on moyaanderson@ymail.com
