TWO county football stars played their part in securing Bonnyrigg Rose a Scottish Cup replay with Dumbarton on Saturday.

Michael Andrews, from Haddington, started in goal for Rose, and was in top form to keep the Championship side at bay.

The former Knox Academy pupil, who lined up alongside former Musselburgh Athletic midfielder Lewis Turner at New Dundas Park, was "delighted" with the result, and his own performance.

He told Courier Sport: "I think a few people had written us off before the game had even started, so to put up a good fight and at times look the better side, we were all happy with the performance.

"I was delighted with the result, and to keep a clean sheet against a Championship club."

Andrews admitted Rose, the East Superleague champions, were a bit disappointed not to have won the match.

He added: "We were maybe a bit gutted we didn't win the game with the chances we had.

"If it wasn't for Aldo [Alan Martin, Dumbarton goalkeeper] I think we would have won it."

The 26-year-old, previously on the books at Falkirk, Berwick Rangers and Cowdenbeath, is looking forward to the replay, which takes place on Tuesday.

He said: "We can go into the replay with a huge amount of confidence.

"Hopefully we play like we can, defend well and take one of our chances.

"Dumbarton will be up for the game because they are at home."

The former Scotland age-grade internationalist is also relishing the prospect of a fourth round meeting with holders Hibs.

The 26-year-old, though, insists his team-mates remain focused on the replay at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium.

He added: "Knowing we could get Hibs in the next round is a huge incentive for us.

"The lads are focused on the Dumbarton game first though."
