EAST Lothian will be well represented at a trio of international bowls events this summer.

Squads have been announced for the tournaments, which will see Scotland take on England, Ireland and Wales.

Logan Kennedy (Cockenzie and Port Seton) and Lennon Rafferty (East Lothian Co-op) are two of the 12 named in the Scotland squad for the Youth (Under-18) International Series.

The competition, which takes place on August 5 and 6, features a mix of both young male and female players.

During the weekend, the 12 players will be split into various singles, pairs, triples and fours teams as they contest a number of test matches.

Kennedy was part of the Scotland squad that won the trophy last year and they will be looking to return from Ebbw Vale Bowling Club in Wales with the prize again.

Meanwhile, the county is also represented in the men’s and women’s junior (under-25) squads.

Kennedy is joined by Danny Stevenson, last year’s Bowls Scotland gents’ under-25 singles champion, from East Lothian Co-op, as well as Dean Riva, from Gifford.

Aaron and Lewis Betts, from Craigentinny, are both in the squad too.

Meanwhile, Tranent’s Emma Blyth and Beth Riva (Gifford) have both been named in the women’s squad.

The combined Junior (Under-25) International Series takes place at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club in Wales over September 16 and 17.

Colin Noon, head coach for both the Junior and Youth International teams, said: “Firstly, it’s a great privilege to lead these teams into both U18 and U25 international series during August and September.

“Scotland has such a depth of talent and potential at these age groups and as such picking each team was really challenging. However, I’m thankful to my support coaches for delivering robust trials and selection processes.

“We believe we have landed on a good mix of experience, coupled with some exciting new caps in all three teams who are looking forward to testing themselves against the other Home Nations during their respective series.”
