A BOWLING club which was at risk of closing has made a little piece of history.

A campaign group was set up five years ago as it was feared that Gullane Bowling Club could close and the site sold to developers.

However, within just a few months, the membership swelled to almost 100.

On Saturday, the bowling club held its first open competition – the inaugural Paris Steele Open Pairs Competition, licensed by Bowls Scotland, following the club’s reconstitution in 2020.

Trevor Wood, president of the club, said: “This is another big step in the club’s history and we are so pleased with the overwhelming support we have received from the bowling community right across East Lothian. We are extremely grateful to Paris Steele, one of our valued corporate sponsors, for their generous financial support for this inaugural event and to all who played and came along to spectate.”

Fraser Symon, partner at Paris Steele, was delighted to support the club and be the first sponsor of the event, won by Stevie Kerr and Kerrie Deans.
