LOGAN Kennedy and Lennon Rafferty respresented Scotland in the British Isles Under-18 International Series at RTB Ebbw Vale Bowls Club, Wales, last weekend, writes Matt Osborne.

Scotland topped the group after day one, accumulating 18 points from a possible 24.

The squad continued where they left off and claimed six from the first eight points on day two, Rafferty and Kennedy combining in the pairs to register an 18-13 win over Ireland.

The two joined forces once again in the second session, gaining Scotland’s only two points against England, in the triples, alongside Amy Blyth.

The squad headed into the last session of play against England in a strong position but a 7-1 win for England saw them clinch the series in the narrowest of fashions.

Colin Noon, team manager, said: “As a coaching team we were super proud of everyone; but the reality is, they made it easy for us with their attitude, behaviour and obvious talent.

“They took a sore defeat with some class that didn’t go unnoticed.

“A huge thanks to each and every one of the players. I hope they enjoyed it, and it drives them on for whatever comes next in their bowling career.”

Meanwhile, the semi-finals and final of this year’s Jubilee Cup/Top 10 take place on Sunday.

West Barns tackle Aberlady at Haddington, while Port Seton play Prestongrange at West Barns.

The winners will meet in the final, scheduled for a 3pm start at Dunbar Bowling Club.

In league action, EL Co-op claimed a 6-2 win over Port Seton last week. A last bowl decider for the points went in the ‘store club’s’ favour. The result puts them four points clear of Port Seton and nine points clear of Haddington, who suffered a shock 6-2 defeat at home to bottom side Winton.

It remains tight at the bottom of the table with the bottom six sides separated by just six points.

Ormiston have all but confirmed their immediate return to Division One this season; a 5-3 win away at second placed Macmerry their latest away success.

Port Seton remain in contention for promotion following their 6-2 win away at Tranent.

Ormiston head to Port Seton today (Friday) in a season-defining fixture for both clubs.

Macmerry face the tricky away task of Dunbar as they look to keep pace at the top.

North Berwick and Cockburnspath will be confirmed as Division Three teams as they look to reset and push again.

Haddington, Castlepark and Athelstaneford remain locked in a three-way tussle for promotion to Division Two. Haddington suffered an 8-0 loss at the hands of Longniddry last time out and miss this round of fixtures as they were due to host withdrawn club Stenton.

Castlepark would have replaced Haddington at the top of the table with any win over Gifford on Wednesday.

Athelstaneford can also leapfrog Haddington if they claim six points or more against Prestongrange.

The teams all return to action today (Friday).

Ormiston sit 13 points clear for promotion to Division Three next season as the league enters its last four games of the season.

Last week’s 6-2 win over Gullane put them nine points clear of second place Pathhead.

They head to Aberlady for the midweek fixture that could see them 20-plus points clear of third placed Aberlady.

On the reverse side, a win for Aberlady would see them claim second place over Pathhead to set up a grandstand finish to Division Four.

West Barns remain with an outside chance of claiming promotion, they sit 10 points behind Pathhead but could take advantage of any slip-ups.
