A 21-YEAR wait for a top flight league title is over for EL Co-op, writes Matt Osborne.

Seven points at Elphinstone saw the Tranent club claim the East Coast Carpets Division One title.

An impressive run saw them win 14 of their 18 games and finish five points clear of Port Seton.

The winning squad at Elphinstone was Brian Forbes Jnr, Lennon Rafferty, Sean Mackie, Robbie Shields, Kieran Dodds, Dean Riva, Dougie Berwick, Stevie Mackie, Steven White, Danny Stevenson, Beth Riva and Cameron Shaw.

The club would also like to mention Scott Dodds, Adam Osborne, Daryl Grieve and Logan Shields who all played their part throughout the season.

At the opposite end of the table, Winton and Elphinstone were officially relegated to Division Two next season.

In the second tier, Ormiston were crowned Division Two champions last week and all eyes were focused on who would join them in promotion to Division One.

Macmerry headed to Cockburnspath knowing an 8-0 win would see them clinch second place in the table.

A dramatic finish to the game saw the score finish 4-4, leaving Dunbar with the opportunity to seal promotion as they tackled Tranent at home.

A 6-2 victory was enough for them to snatch second place at the final hurdle.

Elsewhere, Cockburnspath and North Berwick will line up in Division Three in the new season.

The battle for promotion from Division Three will go down to the wire as Castlepark A, Haddington A, Athelstaneford and East Linton A are all narrowly separated in their quest for promotion.

Castlepark and East Linton meet this week in the final game of the league season while Haddington welcome Dunbar and Athelstaneford make the trip to Longniddry.

Pathhead and West Barns are looking to join Ormiston A in Division Three next season.

West Barns welcome champions Ormiston as they look to continue their push for promotion while Pathhead can seal their place in Division Three with a 6-2 win against Gullane.

With a possible league re-structure in the new year, the incentive remains for teams to finish as high up the table as possible.

Elsewhere, East Lothian under 25s return to cup action this week as the squad heads to Sighthill Bowling Club to represent the county at the annual Calder Cup.

The competition follows a top nine format and team captain John Henderson sends the following squad looking to claim the last available silverware of the season:

Pairs – Logan Kennedy and Danny Stevenson.

Triples – Beth Riva, Cameron Shaw and Robbie Shields.

Fours – Sean Mackie, John Clark, Kieran Dodds and Dean Riva.
