EAST Lothian’s proud history within the Scotland international set up continues, writes Matt Osborne.

Logan Kennedy, Danny Stevenson, Dean Riva, Beth Riva and Emma Blyth all pulled on the famous Saltire at the junior international series in Llandrindod, Wales.

Inclement weather brought a premature close to day one of play, with the men claiming victory over England while the women suffered defeat against their English counterparts.

The results meant that the titles for the men, ladies and overall were still up for grabs going into Sunday.

More bad weather was forecast for late afternoon, so the decision was made to shorten the format for day two, reducing play to 13 ends.

An early morning win for the ladies against hosts Wales gave them hope of claiming the title, while boosting Scotland’s hopes of claiming the overall trophy.

The men could not match the result and fell to a 28-40 loss to Wales.

The afternoon would see both sides play Ireland in the final fixture to decide the outcome of the trophies with favourable results also needed in the England and Wales fixtures.

Both Scotland sides dominated from the start and registered good wins to increase the pressure on the sides in the other game.

Wales ran out winners in their men’s game to claim the men’s title.

A dramatic last end in the ladies’ tie would see the match finish all square and leave Scotland top of both the ladies’ section and the overall winners.

Back in East Lothian, the annual Courier Cup took place at Haddington.

The tournament sees the East Lothian Bowling Association (ELBA) league winners from Division One to Four pitted against each other in a knockout competition.

The final saw EL Co-op race from the traps on rink four blowing Ormiston away over the first seven ends to lead 17-2.

The other two rinks were all square at the halfway point but would need a significant turnaround in their third rink.

The first two rinks remained close until the final ends of play, Ormiston winning 14-11 on rink two.

EL Co-op edged the contest on rink three (13-12) while the EL Co-op rink four continued their fine start to secure the match defining 25-7 win and see the Division One champions crowned the Courier Cup champions.
