EAST Lothian bowlers are drawing an end to their outdoor season and are making the transition from grass to carpet as East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club reopens, writes Matt Osborne.

The gents’ squad make a swift return to CIS league action this coming Saturday as they welcome Lanarkshire to the carpet.

Selectors have picked the following squad and have also named Lewis Betts as team captain:

Calum Darling, Chris Brock, Daniel Gormley and Lewis Betts (Sk) (Captain); Aaron Betts, Keiron Dodds, Stuart Thomson and Dean Riva (Sk); Jamie Higgins, Stuart Clark, Alan Young and Scott Kennedy (Sk); and Logan Kennedy, Jamie Gordon, John McCrorie and Billy Mellors (Sk).

Play is scheduled for a 2pm start with supporters most welcome, the bar and kitchen facilities are open throughout the day, with new kitchen team ‘Ideal Catering’ in place for the 2023/24 season.

Meanwhile, Linda Fraser has been crowned the new club champion at Dirleton Bowling Club.

The championship final came down to Fraser and Anderina Soave.

In the end, Fraser took a 21-13 win to become only the second lady to hold the title in the club’s 141-year history.
