Tranent came from behind to secure a 3-1 win at home to Sauchie Juniors in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup third round last night (Tuesday).

Tranent went into the game on the back of a narrow 1-0 home defeat to League Two side Forfar Athletic in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

And it was not the start the hosts had hoped for as Mark Smith struck just five minutes in to give Sauchie the lead.

Tranent were forced into an early substitution on 13 minutes, when Broque Watson replaced an injured Lennon Walker.

Smith again came close for the visitors three minutes later, but his one-on-one chance saw him guide the ball just past the post.

Watson would go close for Tranent on 21 minutes, but his effort flew just over the bar.

Alassan Jones was next to have a go for Tranent, but his powerful effort from the edge of the box on 25 minutes went just wide.

Tranent brought on Scott McCrory-Irving and Scott Gray on for Jones and Ben Miller at half time.

McCrory-Irving did well from kick-off, with a neat run and pass to Cammy Ross who’s curled effort went just wide.

The continued pressure paid off on 52 minutes when Aiden Walsh levelled things. Fortune favoured the Tranent man as his deflected effort caught the keeper off guard and nestled into the bottom corner.

Watson would nearly put Tranent ahead nine minutes later when played through, but it was saved behind for a corner.

Tranent’s fourth change came on the hour mark as Kieran Sommerville replaced Ciaran Brian.

With 15 minutes to go, Kallum Higginbotham replaced Cammy Ross as Tranent looked to find a winner.

Sam Scott in the Tranent goals was called into action on a couple of occasions, making good saves to keep things level.

But with six minutes to go, Tranent would go in front. Watson did brilliantly to go around the keeper, maintaining his composure to score into an empty net.

And he was not dine there, as he added the third in added time, again showing quick feet to beat the defender and finish well.

Despite facing a stubborn Sauchie side, Tranent showed their class in the second half to secure a vital win and will face Jeanfield Swifts in the fourth round of the competition.

The county side are back in action on Saturday as they host East Stirlingshire in the Lowland League.
